Kevin was a founding member of The Etcetera String Band, a well–known Ragtime string group. As a member of The Etcetera String Band for nearly 30 years, Kevin traveled throughout the country performing at Ragtime and Folk music festivals, including the Festival of American Folklife in Washington, D.C., by invitation of the Smithsonian. He appeared on all four of the band’s highly acclaimed recordings and was featured in two PBS-TV specials: The Cradle of Ragtime and in concert at Mississippi State University. Kevin was featured on a National Public Radio special report on the famous Kansas City dancer “Doc” Brown.
In addition to The Etcetera String Band, Kevin has played trumpet in both a marching band and a Jazz band, has accompanied fiddlers at fiddle contests, and is active in his church choir. Kevin also has played in rock bands The Leopards and The Kontroversy, both were 50s and 60s style Rock ‘n’ Roll bands. Kevin was with The Leopards when they were the opening act for a The Talking Heads concert in Kansas City.
Kevin’s interest in music research has led to published articles in the Rag-Times and the Kansas City Rag-Time Revelry. He has also given symposiums and was interviewed for Uniquely Kansas City, a documentary on the history of the arts in Kansas City, produced by the local PBS station KCPT-TV.
